I have a favor to ask of you all. My oldest brother found out some time ago that he had cancer (rectal), but he didn't find out until the cancer was in a more advanced stage. At present, he is at the Albany Veterans Medical Center in Albany, NY. He was supposed to start Chemo/Radiation on Tuesday, but there was some complications due to his weakened state from losing quite a bit of his electrolytes. They will not do surgery, until they can at least attempt to shrink the cancer, which is a mass and not a tumor. Some of the cancer has also spread to his lymph nodes, which is not good. I'm asking for anyone that is willing to, to please keep him in your Prayers, in hopes that the power of Prayer will help him. He's only 54 yrs young. Thank you, in advance.

Thank you, everyone, for the thoughts and prayers. I sure hope he beats this. Time will tell. They haven't started chemo/radiation, yet, as they are still trying to get him strong enough to take the therapy. I'll keep you updated, as best I can.

Kristin . Prayers are going out for your Brother,

We ask that The Great Physician will heal all those that have or about
undergone surgery and radiation therapy and that the fire of God will destroy all the cancer cells. We speak peace to all the
patients and ask the healing virtue of Our Lord God will flow through every vein, tissue, cell, ligament and that healing will manifest.
We believe that Gods desire is manifest in your life. His desire is written in 3 John 2 “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good
health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along”. We speak peace to all the families having cancer
patients. We speak uncommon provisions to cater for all the expenses needed to take care of the patients. We destroy every
generational curses and declare that they will not continue but the blessings of God will overshadow each and every one of you.
We are in agreement with Gods word in Jeremiah 30:17 “ But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds declares the LORD.”
So be it, in Jesus Name. Amen.

Mountain Spirit, leader of the Mountain Spirits, your body is holy.
By means of it, make him well again.
Make his body like your own.
Make him strong again.

He wants to get up with all of his body.
For that reason, he is performing this ceremony,
Do that which he has asked of you.

Long ago, it seems you restored someone's legs and eyes for them.
This has been said.
In the same way, make him free again from disease.
That is why I am speaking to you.

Thank you tons, everyone! I knew I could count on you all. They have yet to start the chemo/radiation, as they want to build up his strength first. He has been on a liquid only diet for about a week and a half, due to not being able to keep the food down, but today they started him back on solid food and he was able to keep it down. So today was a good day!:)

My Mom is not doing so well with this. She wants to be there with him, but the hospital is about 4 hours away and to go there everyday is just too much for either her or more father to have to drive there everyday. I can't get out of work right now, as I'm working overtime due to the economy, so the weekends is the only spare time I have. Unfortunately, since it's the VA he has to go through, he has no choice and has to go where they have the facilities to take care of cancer patients. Dad never shows his emotions to much (unless he's really ticked off), but I know that having his first born son so sick is hard on him, as well.

I don't care to imagine how you all feel right now. :( I know you feel an extra need to care for your parents, but be sure to take care of our Kristin, too. As tough as it is to live by, "Don't sweat the small stuff" is the best advice I could give you. The dishes, laundry, yardwork, et al will still be there waiting when you get to them. Don't push yourself from sunrise to sunset trying to single-handedly "make it right." FYI...a hot bath with a glass of wine and a good book is not too extravagant!!!! All will be as it should. Keep the faith! :grouphug:

Thanks DOC, I'll look into it. My parents went to see my brother today. As far as I know, my brother will be starting the chemo/radiation tomorrow. They moved him upstairs (which is where they do the treatments)this morning. The Dr. at the facility told my brother that he may be able to go to the Syracuse VA hospital and have the surgery done, depending on how well the treatments work in shrinking the cancer mass. Time will tell. Again, I thank everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers. You are all the best and I don't know what I would do without you! Love you all!

My brother had his first radiation treatment yesterday, even though they did say they wouldn't start till today. My Mom said he is the worst patient in the whole VA hospital, after her visit with him yesterday. Seems he's a bit ornery. I told her it's probably just due to the fact that he's stir crazy from being there for so long and knowing he'll be there for some time yet. Not sure when the chemo will start.

June 12th, 2009, 07:32
Not sure what the plans are with your brother, but when it was my mom, they didn't do both treatments at once. Both are very nasty to healthy human cells as well as diseased cancer cells. They will probably finish the round of radiation, give his body some time, then do chemo. I hope it doesn't come to that for all of you. I pray radiation will make that naughty old tumor figure out it's unwelcome and send it packing!! :)

kmarier2001
June 22nd, 2009, 19:21
All of the radiation treatments on my brother are done now. They doubled up on them, trying to prevent the Cancer from spreading to where they did an ileostomy (reversible), so as to keep him from having to have a colostomy (in most cases, irreversible). He is scheduled to have surgery on July 1st, to try to have as much of the Cancer as possible, removed. There were a few areas that they could not give him radiation, so hopefully those areas will not spread too much between now and the surgery. My brother is not one to ask too many questions (he figures what he doesn't know won't hurt him), so that's about all I know for now. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers, everyone:)

Okay all ~ Could use some extra prayers for my brother, tomorrow. His surgery is scheduled to take place Wednesday July 1st. It will take approximately 4 hours to complete. My brother is resting peacefully in ICU, surgery has been done. They removed all of the tumor, hopefully. They had to do a full colostomy, unfortunately, which is permanent. The tumor was a large one and was just too far down and they had no choice but to do the colostomy. The most important thing is, he is alive. It will take him some time to get used to things, but it's much better then the alternative. Thank you to all of you for your thoughts, prayers and well wishes. You certainly helped tremendously and I just love you all sooooo much!!:grouphug:

Kristin, how is your brother doing??

He's still in the hospital, awaiting the chemo treatments. We are hoping that after the first few, he'll be able to come back home and have the rest of the treatments done closer to home. My brother said the surgeon who removed the cancer, is an extremely nice Dr and seems to be excellent in his field. Hopefully, for my brothers sake(and others), he is just that and got all of the cancer. They took a look at his lymph nodes, I guess, and said they seem to be okay. When they were running some tests a few weeks before his surgery, they thought possibly the cancer was starting to spread into the lymph nodes. There are days he's in good spirits and days he's not. I suppose having to be in the hospital for this long, can take it's toll.

Thanks for inquiring on him and sorry I've been a little lax in letting you all know how he's doing. Thanks, as well, for the continued thoughts and prayers!

My Mom just called me, as she just got done talking with my brother. They are releasing him from the hospital in Albany, today!!!! He'll have to go to the VA Hospital in Syracuse, to have some stitches removed in a few weeks and for his chemo and a few other routine follow-ups, as well. He's not 100% better, but just the mere fact that he can come home and not be stuck in the hospital will surely help to improve his health further. Rusty ~ we are very happy to have YOU back! We don't take to kindly to any of our "kin" fallen ill. Our lives have been blessed because you are a part of it, as is everyone else here. We may not ever meet (although it would be nice someday to actually see the person behind the keyboards whom we've conversed with and come to consider our family), but having known each other through some great(and at times deep)conversations ~ having one of our own feeling down, doesn't do the heart good.
