There is something going around that movie companies are interested in releasing movies to DVD at the same time as when they appear in the theater. Would you be willing to pay more to rent a movie that is still playing in the theater in order to just watch it on DVD? I think they price they are suggesting is in the $20 range for the rental.

thats rediculous when some movie theatres atleast around me cost as little as 3 bux to see a movie so to pay over 15 to rent it would be outragous!

If they are $20 to rent, or $9.50-$12.50 to watch in the theatre, damn straight I would not rent an active movie. That would fail miserably if they did it that way. Even if they lowered the cost to the same amount, then people would stop going out the the theatres as much, losing them money. If they made it less than the theatres, and ran them the same time, people eould rent it instead of going out to see it. This is a no brainer. I usually only go to the matinee anyway, so it costs $4.50 for me at the theatre. Please tell me they are not going ot shoot themselves in the fot like that.

Ah, but I think you all are failing to consider the "date factor." What if you can rent a movie for $20 that is in the movie theaters at the same time but 4 people can watch the same movie. Obviously, this doesn't make much sense if you are a single and want to watch the movie but if you are going on a date, you break even and if you want to bring kids, you come out ahead. Actually, the more people you get together to watch the movie, the better you make out. It's not going to be $20 per person. It's $20 per movie and if you throw in the popcorn and snacks that you can pay so much less for the whole movie experience.

OK, I have rethought my take on this whole gig. I am going to stop going to the movies OR renting, if I am going to have to pay so much for it.

I think that there is something to going to the theater. As for me if there is a movie that I want to see bad enought to not wait until it comes out on DVD, then I would rather go to the movies and have the full expierence of the movie. If I have stated that clear enough for ya'll to understand, LOL!!

I definitely wouldn't do that. I don't rent DVDs anyway, so I would just go to the movie theater. Half the time I just wait for it to come to cable anyway.

i try to avoid theaters as much as possible. patrons have less respect for others trying to watch a movie now days. I'd much rather see it at home, and be able to watch in peace and quiet. plus i can pause, pee, run to the kitchen for popcorn etc.
just my 2 cents

Despite the fact that renting a movie would be cheaper than going to the theatres the food and refreshments would end up costing more than the renting the movie. Besides. The best viewing for a movie is in a theatre with a big-ass screen. That's my opinion anyway.

I would but for less money. The main reason I go to see a movie is the popcorn, sound and big screen. You loose a lot watching it at home.

Tre that. Watching Rocky Horror at the theatre is an experience. Watching at hom on a less than 30 foot screen is weak. Plus no one throws things. (part of the experience..)

Currently in my area, going to the movie to watch a new release would be about $6.00 less than the rental price noted above.
No, I would not rent a movie for $20.00 for the sake of convieniance.

The only way I would rent a $20 movie was when an epic movie came out an I had an awesome home theater with a bunch of friends to watch it with. Then a bargain it would be.

i'm so cheap it is not funny, i do love watching movies at home, big screen , surround sound and a pause button for bear runs, head calls etc.
and at home i can rewind if i miss something due to big mouth teenagers!

Well, considering that it just cost me $17 for two people to go to see a movie at the theater and another $23 (yes, that is the correct amount!) for 2 medium popcorn and 2 sodas - yes, I would rather rent the movie and make a bowl of microwave popcorn! The movie theater is not cheap like it was when I was a little girl. They are way overpriced now.

lol not quite the same thing as the old vhs or dvd. All though you can pause and fast forward also. It comes straight from the cable company select what you want to watch and don't have to get up off the couch.

I can remember as a kid being dropped at the movie theater on Saturday with a two dollar bill in my pocket, I'd see two movies, a cartoon or two get a soda (large) popcorn (also large) and a couple candy bars or lg pkg of candy, and if i was lucky still leave with change in my pocket.
it's getting (wait, too late for GETTING) ridiculous!

I absolutely love it in the new hightech theater with really good surround sound systems. Really gets my heart pumping for the blood and gore scenes, or the scare-the-hell-outta-ya explosions. That's when it is worth my money. Even if I got the DVD while the movie is still out, it wouldn't have the same experience as in the theater (unless you have a movie theater room in your mansion).
Nothing better than heart pounding action on the screen while you virtually inject the heart stopping butter from the popcorn in your system. Ha! Make mine diet.
