You may notice that the troop support forum is no longer. It was there as I was planning on using that until the Troop Support Section of the Hangout Site got back up, but was never able to get around to setting permissions up for that forum.
**PLEASE REMEMBER...DO NOT POST TROOP ADDRESSES WITHIN THE FORUMS FOR SECURITY REASONS!!!!!**
Some of you may remember the old troop support section that was up about 6 months ago which had troop address, it's own message boards, photo albums, news, guestbook, messages to our troops guestbook, care package ideas, tips, and many many other features. It was taken down (not on purpose, it was just late at night and I got a wild hair to update the software and wham bam thank you ma'am I wasn't paying attention and messed it all up) and at that time I decided it was for the best as I wanted a clean slate to start from anyway. Due to husband coming home from Iraq, the welcome home party, and having new clients also come into play which meant I actually had to work, lol, the troop support section got put on the back burner.
So here is the good news....I have a volunteer who is going to be the new troop support manager. He will oversee all aspects of that section, which will leave me free to do other things. And....it should be up by the end of this month. For security reasons you will not be able to use your login info that you already have for the portal. You will need to sign up there to use most features of that section as well as view troop addresses. And because there will be troop addresses available, you will have to provide more info about yourself to sign up, (such as full name, address (no po box) home telephone, and other information. This is done to protect our troops. Why you may ask. I asked several service members their ideas and how they felt about their addresses being posted on the Internet for anyone to see. All their responses were that even though they loved care packages and letters it made them uneasy knowing that their address would be publicly viewable to just anyone. They felt more at ease knowing that the site collected personal identifiable information from the supporters who were wanting their addresses before being able to get their address. So there you have it, expect to see the new/old section back up by the end of this month!!!
