Bridget,

Do you have a banner made for the site. I need to try and get one to direct my members here if I could. My site, www.kc130.com (http://www.kc130.com)

Thanks,

Not all of us are able to post polls.

Maybe if we can't post polls, we shouldn't be allowed to start a thread in the polls section?!?

Renegade 2nd LT JROTC - Don't know him

TxsBMW - Nice person. Feeds my fix. Makes me feel funny, like when I used to climb the ropes in gym class

Nick352 - Seems like a nice guy. Works hard to bring meaningful conversation to the site.

Trapper - Sometimes leaves a little think about with his thoughts. He seems to be alright though.

ShooterDSH - Reminds me a little of Nick. He is a good man to have on the site.

hmxSgt - Came to the site with guns blazing. Seems to "get" us now and has assimilate well.

gunga55 - I think he is one of the good ones. He listens and doesn't judge others without truly considering their opinion.

V8403 - Another member from the great state of Illinois. He can do no wrong.

hankhoffman - He's a moderator so I can't say my true feelings so I will just call him an asshole.

Green Man - doesn't visit the site often but I see him everyday at lunch. One of my few best friends in life.

marine4life - Other than knowing his birthday is May 25th, I know very little about him.

motox151 - I am getting nothing. he needs some time form his online personality on here.

nightwolf - much more intelligent than I initially gave him credit for when he first popped onto the site. He is light years ahead of his peers.

kmarier2001 - She is great for the site. She gives us the perspective a Marine mom.

1marineslady - A Marine Wife that also doubles a secret agent board moderator. I like her too. She says things that are great to hear from a Marine Wife.

BeirutBill - wonder where the name came from?

SSG_Bolles - another youngin' that let's you rest easy that he is in the military service or will be someday.

HangoutNewsBot - brings us the news whenever it pertains to the Marine Corps.

Medinam - where oh where has Medinam gone?

Dakota Kid - Joined the Marine Corps and he forgot us.

dcware - good guy and he also brought us TxsBmw. Glad he's here.

There more but I will have to add to this list later. I don't know how I am going to get through over 700 members.

Who started this thread anyway? How am I supposed to get through over 700 members and give my feelings on each of them?

I like the diversity here. We have just about all the branches covered, including a few non vet civies(green man) that add a great deal. (Although GM was MIA for a while...) We all have differing opinions on things, and most do not hold it against us. We all come from vastly differing walks of life, but with a common thread. We all have some tie with the US Military, in one form or another and for that, I thank each and every one of you. I know I enjoyed the people here so much that when I left a while ago, I could not stay away. I was welcomed back with open arms, and have made a ton of new friends. Damn it, I am starting to get misty!

Its like a 2nd family here. I haven't HONESTLY gotten into serious debate, but its all good. It seems to me other boards have many drive by trolls and retreads that post to piss ya off. I love that you don't see that here. Or I haven't seen that here.

HMC8404

Now that I've been here a couple of months and seeing this thread pop back up to the top ... I have a better assessment to add.

We ARE family here. I am closer with some of the people here than my own brother and sisters.

As family goes I like Trapper feel the same this is a family site. and many of the people here are my extended family
I agree with you both. My mother, sisters and brother don't know the military side of my life. I tell you guys things here I couldn't tell them simply because they'll never understand because theres no military perspective to refer back to in order to appreciate the humor, the lifestyle, the challenges, the demands, and the personal sacrifices. Hell, even my father who served 3 years in the Army during the Korean war fell out of touch with it all. I'd talk about my career with him in phone calls and while home on leave, but it was apparent that he didn't understand the Navy's ranking system. He knew I was picking up rank but didn't really grasp it until a visit to Japan when he road my ex's ship from Hong Kong to Yokosuka for a 'Tiger Cruise'. His experience onboard the ship and seeing not only separate berthing quarters and galleys for the CPOs apart from the regular enlisteds, but also a different uniform, made his eyes pop when he saw me in a Chief's uniform (even though I had told him I had picked it up). I'll never forget him saying, "You're one of them?" increduliously ... thus confirming that he never did grasp what I had talked about. So here is the only real place that I can really talk and get back in touch with my military roots. And for that I thank you all, espeically you Bridget, for providing us with this site.

Well 2 people think that we are mean and suck I was tempted to click that myself and I put up the poll
Can we ask who the two are? So far I've seen no evidence to that. Then again I still haven't been here that long. ;)

I have to say that even though this is as close to being back in as I am going to get, it is as close as I need to be in my eyes. Even though I may not be able to pick up a cold beer with, well, pretty much all of you, I can still pass the time talking about things that only people on this board would understand. The Marine Corps is a Brotherhood unlike any in the world, and I was and still am honored to have been counted among them. I also would be able to count everyone that I have met so far on here as Brothers and friends.

I actually did know that, hence the lol. I know I missed alot not having ever been "haze grey and underway", but even had I stayed in longer than I did, I would give up every opportunity to go on a ship to go back to another Marine unit. Obviously my time with the grunts made me prejudicial to them, but even something like a FSSG would be better than ships company any day.

As soon as we're slapped with that 8404 NEC though ... that always WAS our sea duty ... with the marines. I knew that the only way I would go "haze gray and under way" was a temporary assignement. I was up for Chief so I wanted my service record to have as much in there as I could ... and sometimes being an 8404 limits you in the Navy when every other sailor has ship time, the sea service ribbons and badges, etc. So, while in Japan I heard the USS Blue Ridge was going out with a compliment of females for a specific deployment and they were requesting a female corpsman to augment the sickbay. I couldn't jump up and down enough begging the CMC to let it be me. Add to that they would be dipping down below the equator too????? Hell yeah! So aboard I went ... for 32 days deployment. The only time I ever saw shipboard duty. It must've helped ... I picked up Chief later that summer.

To get back to the original question, I'd have to say that unlike my family of birth, this site contains FAMILY in that they are supportive, honest and God's greatest people... much like the Marines and Corpsmen on a sister site -- fromthehalls.com.

I have been able to be open, ask for help and not feel bad about it. I know if I need support, most of the members here a willing to go above and beyond 100 percent. You cannot find people as good as the ones here everyday.

I am honored to be a member of this site.

Obviously my time with the grunts made me prejudicial to them, but even something like a FSSG would be better than ships company any day.

The only haze grey and underway occurred when I was part of a BLT (3/9), of which I spent about 26 days total time aboard ship -- all gator navy amphibs, the largert being the USS Duluth (LPD 6) and the two other were LSTs -- the Tuscaloosa and the Fredericks. After going through a squall in the Sea of Japan aboard the Tuscaloosa made me appreciate being on the green side of the Navy, especially when the ship was doing 55 degree rolls in the choppy seas.

But, four years was enough for me. Scarred and disillusioned, I did not want to spend another four years -- either on the blue or green sides of the Navy. Ironically, most of the friends with whom I associate now are Marines and/or FMF corpsmen. Funny how life turns out, eh?

LST in bad seas is not something I ever wanted to experience. A LSD and LPD were bad enough in rough seas

I spent at least half of my float with BLT 3/9 spread across three ships -- all gator navy types, some small and one huge one -- LSTs Frederick and Tuscaloosa and LPD6, the USS Duluth. Can say that other than finessing my way out of the troop compartments (where the smoke was thick and the smell of vomit all pervasive) and getting into one of the forward battle dressing stations on all three ships (where there were comfortable hospital beds with real thick mattresses) where my battle station was, I'd say that life aboard ship was both dull and boring. I'd much rather spend time walking through swampy terrain with my platoon than having to endure long sea voyages.
