I have been thinking about a society (in light of Michael Moore's latest movie Sicko) where everyone would receive socialist health care. It doesn't sound bad to me and these are some of the reason's why:

Free health care - No brainer right? But there has to some consequences so what are they?
Who ends up paying in the end?
Potential for abuse
Lowering the costs to see a doctor - Doctors could go to med school for free which in turn allows for lowering of fees and now the burden isn't as much.
Maintain standards to get into Med school and be a doctor but the burden of paying back student loans goes away and in return their fees are regulated to adjust for this.
Where does the money come from to pay the doctor in the first place?
We could finally use our tax money for something good. I would absolutely pay an equal percentage of my salary to pay for health care if I didn't have to worry about doctor bills from coming in post hospital/doctor visit.
We would have to regulate the type of care that would be afforded so what would be allowed and not allowed.
Plastic surgery for cosmetic appeal should still be paid for as an elective and not covered by the socialist health care.
Life or death surgeries and procedures would always be covered. While I don't want to get in big political discussion about Michael Moore, I would like to point the same thing he did in his new movie. According to Senator Frist (http://www.volpac.org/index.cfm?FuseAction=Blogs.View&Blog_id=456), we are providing the detainees with A#1 health care.

And just a quick note about that medical care - it will surprise most Americans, and indeed people around the world to know that these detainees receive better care than many Americans.

Senator Frist has listed item after item of the types of medical coverage the detainees are getting in Gitmo. They include dental care such as root canals and regular teeth cleanings to life saving surgeries such as heart by-pass surgeries and organ transplants.

I know most don't agree with Moore on this board but his point is if we can give that kind of health care to potential terrorist suspects, why can't we give it to the people that helped clean up the WTC mess post 9/11?

There is always a down side to socialism health care people in favor tend to talk about the no payment and how great it is but the truth is the lines for any procedure are looooooonnnnnnggggggg.... that is why people with socialized medicine come to the US to get things done. It seems the systems work pretty good on the preventive side but after that there are some glaring holes. Then when you factor in the economy of the countries France being a very terrible example of what happens it doesn't look so pretty.

See and that is why I asked about it....I don't know much about socialist health care...the pros or cons. I can only speculate.
