I don't think it will be very effective; not lifting casualties at least; some casualties are better left unmoved (I've heard)
but how would the forklift-like arms fit under an un-moving body (and stay on at the same time); it'd be more cost effective (if terrain permits) to design the robot to pull on the drag handles off of the uniform, thats what they're there for no?

-do BDU's not have drag handles anymore?

I think that is a pretty good point looked at the pic one more time I don't know how effective it would be of course some of those things you have to see in action.

Thank you for your feedback. Your points are all right on target and the BEAR will be able to deal with very difficult terrain, and will be able to grab people in a number of ways. Lifting as shown in the video is just one approach among many. In most cases it will stay very low until out of danger.


Keep an eye on this project, when the next version of the legs come out you will see some exciting stuff.

I noticed that bear lifts the wounded, in combat that might be ill-advised, instead it might be necessary to stay low, and while BEAR might be able pivot forward, the victims legs would become a problem.

I was thinking that it might not be a bad idea to allow BEAR the ability to drag soldiers out of combat by their drag handles (usually on the soldier's vest) while retaining the ability to pick them up in order to deliver them to safety, BEAR would be no use if it couldn't adapt to terrain, tactical situation, and stand up to environmental rigors such as sand and humidity etc.
