Speaking of which did he ever get to the place where they were sending him? I was going to send him some candy and some travel games that people have been giving me to send to the troops. If that is ok with you. I sent my husband tons of candy and games already. Cause I know they get pretty bored out there when not on missions.

Just remember that in the desert, being bored is a good thing. That just means that I don't have to worry about the news talking about my area and Bridget getting worried. All is well here and I appreciate the fact that ya'll are thinking of me.

The Stumps is the best duty station the Marine Corps regardless of housing.

I really do like the new housing. And the old housing sucks. I just got talked into moving into base housing. In Lejeune they are building new houses there as well so that will be nice.
I think the Marine Corps flag would piss a lot of people of but all well. I am hanging out my Navy Flag and Marine Corps Flag. How long do you think it will take you to move into the new houses. How far away are they from the old housing?

hey thats pretty cook if I was a lil closer I would come down to help you out. And that is really nice of the guys to come help you move all of your heavy stuff. takes the strain off your back.

So Derek, I mean Steve, likes the Stumps? I have to admit, you are the only one that I know that loved that duty station. Everyone that I know hated being out there. My unit has since moved out there, but it was after I got out, so I never stepped a foot into that base.

The stumps weren't that bad. The guys complaining usually didn't have a car and were trapped there.

Why the Stumps is the Greatest Duty Station in the Marine Corps.
The weather has to be 120 degrees before the black flag comes out
You are three hours from everything! I mean everything...maybe 4 hours at most but on any given weekend, you can hit L.A., San Diego, Las Vegas. Palm Springs, Laughlin, and Lake Havasu without having to get an out of bounds chit.
You have 3 months of truly hot weather but the other 9 months of the year, is probably the best weather in the country.
During the day you could be down to your skivvies but at night you can bundle up in a sleeping bag and still be cold.
When you are stationed there, you will never have to live at Camp Wilson.
No CAX's for permanent personnel.
Joshua Tree National ParkThat's just the highlights but give me another day or so and I can come up with more reasons it is the best duty station.

Steve, they must have changed some things around or something, because I spent many months in the field on CAX's and double CAX's.

But did you live in the field like the visiting units at Camp Wilson? I dunno. I never participated in any CAX's while I was stationed there. Ironically, I participated in 2 a year from 95-97 and in 98 I went to 4 of them. I guess my facts could be wrong but the other things that make the Stumps great still stand.

I never had to stay at Camp Wilson, but I stayed in the field a LOT.
