I went to see Superman Returns friday with a friend of mine. Overall I thought the movie was really pretty darn good, but it was a bit long. They could have easily tightened it up a bit (like taken out some of the almost-painfully long slow motion shots of Superman just floating), and not lost a thing. I really enjoy Bryan Singer as a director, but on Superman I thought he was trying a bit too hard. Perhaps I'm the only one that thinks so, but with all the money spent on this movie I thought it could have been better by cutting some of the unnecessary garbage out of it. The effects were great, and the acting was pretty good, and Singer's ability to keep a viewer involved in the story is still there. They should have just cut 15 to 30 minutes of the excess in this movie and it would have been perfect.

I havnt seen it, but I understand that they took out "The American Way"
from "Truth Justice and the American Way"

that kinda stinks..
but I've heard other than that it was a pretty good movie.

Come to think of it.... I don't think they mentioned the American way when someone was talking about Superman's good qualities. I guess the moviemakers did not want to offend anyone watching the movie that is not American. Even though it is an American comic. And the fact that Superman has been an American icon for many years. But what the heck, as long as it's politically correct and we don't offend anybody!

It was reported on Nite- Line the reason they took out Superman holding the Flag and the saying The American Way SO as not to offend any one in other countries, since superman was the friend of mankind and of every nation in the world and so the movie can rake in some BIG BIG BUCKS .

That's just it. Nobody can stay true to characters that are established anymore. They have to conform to the political/economic/societal pressures so that the original integrity of the character gets tarnished. What's Superman without Truth, Justice, and the American Way? Next they're going to wrap his cape around his head like a turban so that Superman can be accepted by Arab peoples.
