Why should I join the Corp?

I think the more appropriate question would be, why shouldn't you join the Corps? However, to be brutally honest, if you have to ask that question, then are you sure you are cut out for the Corps?

I agree with Lima, if you have to look outside yourself for reasons to join the Elite Fighting Force, are you you really sure you even want to?

I can give you a million reasons to join, but you have to want to join for yourself

I have always wanted to be a Marine, some days I want to be a Marine so bad I can't stand it, I can at least try right?

You can't say "try" like there is a chance you wont make it. You have to tell yourself "I AM going to be a Marine." I was going to enlist in the Army. But I changed my mind because I figured out the Marine Corps was harder and BETTER. But you can't ask that question. You just have to tell yourself that you WILL make it. Don't second guess your decision to join the Greatest Fighting Force in the world.

I have always wanted to be a Marine, some days I want to be a Marine so bad I can't stand it, I can at least try right? If that is the case, then the question of why should never even enter into your brain. I KNEW that I wanted to be a Doc. There was never a moment where I doubted I would become one. I KNEW I wanted to be a Marine Doc. There was never a moment I doubted I would make it there. You HAVE to have that mindset from word GO. If you doubt yourself, you will fail.

I agree somewhat with what the guys said on not second guessing yourself on wanting to be a Marine. I feel you are ok in saying "I might want to become a Marine" looking at your age. Who really knows what they want at 16! You are searching on what you might want to do with your life! When I was 16 I had tons of ideas on what the world might offer me. When you make your decision if it is becoming a Marine or maybe even a teacher etc. You will find what best fits you. Maybe it might be a Marine! Whatever it ends up to be, go into it with your whole heart and you will succeed ...:)

Wannabe_ Marine your signature reminds me of a quote I read once.
This drill instructor is 'speaking' to his recruits, and he says, 'Let the other bastard die for his country, we want you alive!.'

Tell you what, look at a Marine on leave and look at any other servive member, then ask your self which do I want to be. But if you think you need convincing to become a Marine, I won't waste my breath, join the army they will take anything.

*edit*(consider this an addition to my last post [I thought of this afterwards])

But more to the subject, whenever anyone asks me why I enlisted [in the Marine Corps], I tell them (strangely enough) I don't know. It might sound lame but it's true, I cannot pick out one reason why I would do this thing most people would call crazy. Sure, I can list lots of benefits, nice uniforms, the swords, the pride, the brotherhood, the skills, the money for college, the people who gawk at the uniform and a platoon drilling, the smile that I get when we scream cadence at the pool functions, it's great all of it. Not to mention how much it's like a family, and how at home I feel at the RSS and around Marines and with my fellow Poolees.

I decided to be a Marine at age 7.... I had the "Marine Corps Infantry" Cadence memorized at 8. And I've never doubted it.

By the way, the quote is by Patton. "The Object of war is not to die for your country, but to make the other bastard die for his."

Adams, I do not rate a sir, but thanks for the respect. You will find at times the people on this board is as much like family as your real family.

Well in my opinion it takes a certain kind of individual to be a Marine and if you think you can handle it then do it. Not to mention we are the most disciplined and best trained fighting force. Also not to mention we are all a little bit crazy. When they need something done they call the Marines to take care of it because they know we will do the best job.

Don't get too hung up on the swords. I went through my whole enlistment and never picked up a sword once. I bought one for myself after left the Marine Corps and keep it as one of my collectibles. It's as close as I ever came though.

If you get on the Drill field, you will definitely have one but they just aren't worn or used like they used to be.

Swords are not cheap either and you don't can't buy one until you are least and NCO or you become a commisioned officer. My officer sword easily cost me over $700.

Why not! You have the opportunity to join the most elite fighting forces. You can become the meanest, baddest most unforgiving human being.

Being a Marine does not mean losing your humanity but to embrace it. You give so that others can benefit from your actions.

You ask Why Should You (I) Join The Corps ?

Well. if You want to be a Part of 232 Years of a very Proud Tratition to a way of life.

1. to make an informed decision,

2. to act responsibly in a mature and dependable manner

3. to learn that honesty, honor, and respect for oneself and others is built into every Marines Very foundation.

To find out that Courage is not the absence of fear. It is the ability to face fear and overcome it. It is the mental, moral, and physical strength that is ingrained in Marines. It carries them through every challenge, and aids them in facing the unknown.

To Learn that , Commitment is what compels Marines to serve our country and the Corps. It is what drives them to face every mission head-on, and win our nation's battles.

After a Marine leaves active duty, the core values that they possess as a Marine - honor, courage, and commitment - stay with each individual for the rest of their life. These qualities help former Marines succeed in whatever endeavor they choose. In fact, many of today's business and political leaders eagerly point to their time in the Marines as the foundation for their success in life.

IF YOU CAN DO THIS YOU ARE READY TO JOIN THE CORPS IF NOT STAY THE H^^^ OUT
