I'd like to be a Scout sniper in the Corp and was wondering if anyone could give me info on what I have to do or anything to become one?
I start school the 28th and thats when The marine corp has people show up and talk to us about it and I don't want to wait that long. I really wanna get a huge head start.

Well you could by the book of Jarhead, that has some interesting information on Scout Snipers in it. Apart from that I'm not sure on what to do.
I know that there's a Scout Sniper training school in the corps which -if you complete- should put you right where the action is. Then again it's the same deal if you just become a Scout Sniper via an indoc.

No problem!! You may need to worry about making it through bootcamp first! You need to talk with a recruiter and see if they can give you any reading material on the stuff you will learn in bootcamp! You also may want to get ahead on the physical part, too! Just the last week I've started to run
yeah about the recruiter after I talk to the guys that come to the school I will get ahold of him.
also Do I need to hold a gpa of some kind to become an officer j/w

You need to work on getting you 3 mile time under 20 minutes. You need to do over 80 sit ups in two minutes and 20 pull ups. I could be wrong but I think you need to spend time as a Grunt before you can be a Sniper.

I think your right, hankhoffman!! Even if he scores high on the shooting range, I think he still has to go grunt! Gotta walk before ya can run!!
Those pull-ups are "deadlock" pull-ups!!

Heh. Not to sound cocky but that's a piece of cake. I do 200 sit-ups in one set (I've been doing them for close to a year) and 45 Push-ups in one set so that should be a breeze for me :P. Again I don't mean to be cocky.
Yeah you would have to spend time as a grunt because if I'm not mistaken that site says you have to be a LCPL to apply?

Um I thought you had to do crunches now, not sit ups. I think you have to do 200 crunches in 2 minutes. At least I thought that was what Derek said while he was in. In the Army you do sit ups, but I think the Marine Corps does crunches. For the PFT that is at least. That's what really screwed him when he came from the MC to the Army. Going from crunches to sit ups.

I ran 3 miles in 25 minutes! I gotta alot of time to make up but I haven't ran like that for awhile. I can do 100 crunches no prob. the pullup are hard

You are right Bridget.
I looked at the MCO on PFTs. It is not much of a change from the sit ups of the past. You have to cross your arm and touch your knees with your elbows. You are no longer allowed to lift your butt off the ground.

Derek has always maxed out on the crunches, he always did over 200. I think it's 200. Anyone know if the max is 200 or what? For max points is what I mean.

A 300 PFT is the Max Score. It was 100 per event in the past.

Okay I misunderestimated Crunches. I did 50 of them, stopped and when I went to do them again I could barely tense.

i couldn't tell you how many of my platoon who had bruised (and/or broken) tail bones after doing setups for the final PFT in boot camp, but I'd bet it was over half.
this was back in early 1981.

Well I seem to be getting use to these Crunches. As I've stated previously they're a hell of a lot harder than sit-ups. I'm now doing them in sets of 100 but I now feel like I can do more than that! Even though it does tend to put a little bit of strain on the back as well as the abdominal muscles.

LOL, just keep it up and you will get there. I just started doing flutter kicks after not doing them for a year and realizing I need to strengthen my ab muscles. I started off only being able to do 25 (and my abs were killing me the next day btw) and now I am up to doing 40 in each set. I do a set in the morning, lunch time, and evening.

HOPE OUR NOT LEFT HANDED. WHEN I APPLIED FOR SNIPER SCHOOL THEY SAID NO WAY BECAUSE I WAS LEFT HANDED AND THERE WOULD BE TO MUCH MOVEMENT WITH A BOLT ACTION RIFLE. GOOD LUCK

For getting in shape for boot camp, When I used to work out with the seals on ship we did one stomach set then another set like push ups or jumping jacks. We would alternate like that for around an Hour a day. I ended up in a lot better shape than right after boot camp.

DANYou would give your position away with all the movement needed for a lefty to cock his rifle. Kinda counter productive, right?

An 18 minute 3 miler would be ideal for recon, but my 22 minute 3 miler still got a look. It was my weak swim qual that denied me!

Hell, it takes me 14 minutes to do 2k's (1.5 miles). I gotta get back into running lol.

Work on that run, and don't be discouraged. Just think. The BUDS school runs everywhere they go. I mean everywhere.

Will do Trapper. I've started doing 4k runs everyday (round about 2.5 miles). I'll keep doing that until I feel I can do 6k within a good time frame.

Did you ever see on the military movies where they are doing a platoon run and the guy is circling the platoon while it runs. Or the last two guys sprint to the front positions and keep doing that throughout. That really helps build endurance. Since you do not have a platoon to train with yet, you can do this:
Set up your normal run route. Get your good pace going. Then every once in a while sprint for a hundred feet or so, then back to your even pace. Do that periodically throughout your run. Very soon you will feel a big difference. Another thing you could do is go to the mall. Go to the parking lot that has the least amount of cars in it. Do wind sprints between the spaces. Count out, say 4 spaces. Sprint back and forth on 4, then maybe add a fifth, etc. It is really tough at first, but you will build up your wind fairly quickly that way. Make sure you stretch out best you can first...

Oh yeah and I saw them do that on Heartbreak Ridge when they guy has a misfire with his rifle so they make him run around the platoon while they march back.

Well your technique certainly helped me there Trapper. I did it once or twice during my run and my average time was beat by 2 minutes. I would've done it more but I made the mistake of running on a full stomach lol.

Just remember, thought, that that run was faster because of the sprinting. Regular runs for time, you won't be doing much sprinting, except maybe at the end. PFT runs you will want to set a good pace and sustain it. That trick is to build endurance a little faster.
