Is the Delayed Entry Program really helpful to future Marines.

I think it is. I've been in it for almost a year now. It gets you in shape, you learn alot. You also just...leave when your ship date comes around, you have to just leave...you dont have to go through the hassle of going through the DEPing in process again, or anything like that.

If you attend the meetings and follow the directions that you are given it helps. You will have a better understanding of what you are getting into. I would hate to go to the Island blind, not knowing what I was in for. They were still able to shock me that first week but I knew what was going on. I don't think some of the kids had any idea, you can see it their eyes.

Yes! Aside from the obvious physical preparation you get from DEP ~ you also learn valuable information about the Marine Corps. The Recruiters also help to prepare you mentally for what you are about to go through. I know that it helped my son immensely. He knew somewhat of what to expect.
It definitely helped me as a parent, knowing that my son was getting that "extra" training, too:)

I think it would be good to ask a lot of questions while in DEP. I was in, and got some info, but not as much as I could have. I did not ask enough questions. I did get to do some cool poolee ebvents, like rappeling and white water rafting as a DEPer.

All the DEP can do for you is assist you in your new path into the Marine Corps. There is no Negative in it. the only Negative that can come out is if you go into the meetings, PT sessions or anything else with a bad attitude.

My run time went from 17:00 to 14:10 in a little over a month in the DEP. Not a record time, and still not passing yet, but it's helping.
I also went from 235 pounds to 209 in just over a month.

Wow, that is impressive to drop 3 minutes in a month time span, and what do you mean by still not passing?

I think the DEP is awesome for future marines
1) Some of the functions are really good PT depending on what we're doing
2) Meeting every month with all the recruiters and fellow poolees keeps my motivation up
3) I don't have many friends at my school, and nobody really understands why I want to be a Marine, so it's good to be able to make friends with the other people in the DEP since they can relate. One of my closest friends I actually met in the DEP, so that's really cool
and then my own personal bonus is that one of my best friends is joining (he's shipping out two weeks before me)- he counts as a referral for me :D- and I hardly get to spend any time with him, but I'm guaranteed to hang out with him at least once a month because of the pool functions lol

I think that the DEP is a great thing. My dad was a Marine so I knew alot about the Corps when I went in but if I had been able ti use the DEP it would have been alot easier for me. I would have had alot more info, and possibly been in top shape by the time I hit boot. Good luck!

DEP is cool, you learn alot from the " Book of Knowledge " PLUS the longer you in before you ship out, the sooner you get out of IRR!!!!!!

believe me, go to the poolee training. these trainings have helped me a lot. i started out doing like 8 or 9 pull ups, 50 crunches in 2 minutes, and running the 1.5 mile in 10 minutes. now i can do 13 pull ups, 74 crunches, and run the 1.5 mile in like 9 min and 19 sec. and i am not finished yet.

with my recruiting office that my recruiter is a part of they automatically put you in DEP. And they make it mandatory to go the functions. I dont knowwhat happens if you dont go, but oh well. I like it a lot. just walking into the office gets me motivated

Aye, that I be...
In case you did not know, Jennifer is a girl in boot camp right now. She blew all the other DEPers away for moto. She was so moto you could just tell. You seem like you have a good bit of that yourself...

yea she was pretty outward with her moto... but in my defense as one of the DEPers that got "blown away", i prefer to be the silent type that always comes in first,http://www.usmchangout.com/portal/hangout/images/icons/icon12.gif. lol.
nevertheless, it was obvious she had her act together!
