The Army range is completely different from the Corps I believe that he will have to requal on the Army pop up target range. I don't think that it moves over at all

Crap. Okay, thanks Gunga. He got expert everytime he was on the range in the Corps, so I am sure he will have no probs though. Makes me wonder how many of his other things he will lose too.

He will lose the coolest uniform in the service, and have to get used to Berets. He will lose having to earn medals and badges and get used to getting them for tying his boots correctly or actually saluting with a less than 90 degree bend in his palm. He will lose his NCO sword, at least the ability to wear it in dress uniforms( since they changed...). Hw will lose bearing. He will lose discipline.
Just a little Army bashing, meant in good fun...

Thanks you Prince. They already are a maroon color, aren't they? It is close to Rasberry...

Thats the artist formally known as Prince who again is known as Prince to you.
I thought that they were black actually. The Special (ED) forces I believe are the Maroon ones.

But he will GAIN civilian credentials without having to starve himself. When John started this crap, he had a 54 inch waist (I sh*t you not!) and he is 5'7" . His father called him "Short-Round" Now he has a 33 in waist to match his 17.5-18" neck. But he is 181 at 33, even though he was 184 at 19. They wanted him to be 176 and the recruiter refused to tape him. I am not footing the medical bills after he starves himself. He'll have to live with the less-cool uniforms. Besides, they're free, where the Corps was gonna make me buy for a full set. :D If either of us need a fix, he can still fit into the set hanging in the closet, anyway. LOL

I don't really see the purpose of changing to the beret anyway. It does absolutely nothing for shading the eyes, which to me is the main reason to have any form of cover in uniform. So WTF Army? Were they trying for a fashion statement? Like Robin Williams said in Good Morning Vietnam-"If you want to make a statement...Clash!"

Joe Joe Joe rolling the sleeves is an art form. It is much better to have rolled sleeves than to run around with long sleeves in the summer time. Oh wait you can just be out of uniform and not wear a blouse (that would be the top half of the uniform for you Joe). I will have to admit that the berets look better than a cover pulled down around your ears. That is a big pet peeve of mine when kids run around with their hat around their ears. I just want to smack them and tell them to quite wearing their dads hat as it don't fit them or to tell them that hats come in different sizes and you are allowed to buy them so they fit your head.

I still catch myself putting 2 fingers on the bridge of my nose when I pull on a ball cap.

I don't think that they press cammies anymore and the boots are not spit shined that is for sure.

I still say that's a bunch of garbage...I used to put so much Stay Flo in my cammies they could practically stand on their own.

I usually kept one set pressed for the occasion. I was up in the motor pool on almost a daily basis so pressed cammies were a bit of a waste. I ended up with a complete set of Inspection cammies and work/field cammies in the other wall locker.

the beret is for out of field use only, so like formation and other things when not in the field
the patrol cap is used for field exercises and when in the motorpool

When in garrison, we had some pretty rigid cammies. Pockets pressed down. Buttoned, etc. Boots were always shiney, whether spit shined or highly buffed. Cover blocked to a razor edge(granted, the sewn border makes that easier now...). I too had a set or two of field cammies and a set for inspections. That was pride in the uniform. Why would anyone in thier right mind want to have a CG with faded cammies in thier locker? As for the boots today, it is kind of hard to spit shine rough brown leather...My guess is inspection quality boots need to be clean annd free from scuffs...?

Yeah I had the whole set inspection time would come and open the foot locker lay out your crap and boom your ready to go. Or so you thought till some idiot would come down and tell you your underwear was folded wrong and you name needed to be stamped elsewhere. So it would be a quick run to the PX to buy 6 more short and 6 more t-shirts. Next inspection oh you got the have 3 green t-shirts then it was the wrong color green. I thinks somebody was getting a kickback from fruit of the loom if you ask me.

the inspections will still be the same keep on set squared away at all times and it makes life easier. Having a wife and kids my put a damper on wanton spending in uniforms though.

Well I am going to work in my field still. No use in surrendering my husband AND my career. So he will have 100% of his pay at his disposal, as long it is within reason.

It would definately make his life easier to have a set of inspection ready uniforms. It typically is a one time cost. He may need to replace some things, but if he does it right, he will be just fine and still have money.
gunga55
May 23rd, 2008, 08:44
as you replace them you rotate them into your daily wear rotating the stock so to speak

I'm kinda looking forward to it though. I am always buying scrubs for work. I see a cute pair and they MUST be mine, so I have more scrubs than I do normal everyday clothes. Well, he gives me a hard time about it, so I cannot wait to dish it back. LOL

well scrubs are pretty comfortable to lounge around in. I will saying doing construction type work in scrubs feels a little weird. I was wiring Pfizer up for wireless and a few places were shower in shower out, on the other side every thing was provided including underwear and socks heaven forbid if you forgot a tool on the other side. I think I am endanger of going off topic must be getting old or something.
