According to the official website of the Westboro Baptist Church a message details their agenda to lawmakers on legislation regarding counter-demonstrations at funerals of dead soldiers.

First of all, the God I believe in doesn't hate anyone. That was directed towards that web site, not you, V8. Granted, my church is not FOR homosexuals, but does not hate them. As for the people protesting the funerals of dead American soldiers is in my opinion a travesty. They are abusing the right that you and I and that kid in the ground fought for. That peeves me beyond belief.

that website, well actually the people that believe that are on Howard Stern all the time. They bring their kids on the show and the kids are full of hatred toward homosexuals. They are barely old enough to know when opening day is for the baseball season but ask them how God feels about gays and the kids can tell you 30 different ways He hates them (at least in their mind).

That church seems to have a twisted view of the same bible/religion that every one else uses. I don't get it.

This group was recently in Cincinnat for a soldiers funereal. I tell you one thing had they showed up to my nephew funereal they wouldnt have been the ones thrown in jail, I would have ended up in jail becuase there is no way I would let anyone disgrace my nephew a true American Hero. I have seen his named used on some anti war websites and have contacted the owners of the sites and asked them to please not use his name because he wanted to go to Iraq and enjoyed being an infantry soldier. I almost went off on his funereal detail because they were just flat out nasty, when the brought his body back he was in his dress greens (well not his but someones his were at home) and his ribbions were all out of order, I had to lock the Army Sgt onto that and have him square that away immediatly. The detail were all wrinkelly and almost dropped his coffin and the Col. was really nasty. I just had to sit back and take a time out and remember that most of the squared away soldiers from Ft Hood were in Iraq an we were stuck with the nasty's to do funereal detail. So I sure as heck wouldnt stand for any one disgracing his memory.

I'm all for the Right to Assemble, but this is pushing the boundaries for what should be acceptable. I have the right to protest the war in Iraq, but if I were a soldier and I died over there, my family also has a right to bury me with honor and respect. For someone to try and make a statement at a funeral is shameful and disgusting.

That is the popular opinion here.

And the statement they are trying to make has nothing to do with the war in Iraq. It's about their hatred of gays and their lifestyle and somehow they have twisted it to fit their needs of publicity. It's working as we have had two separate threads on this topic now and it has been going on for some time as well.

I misinterpreted the thread. But gay people deserve proper respect at a funeral too. Just because you are gay does not mean that you can't have an impact on people's lives or that people won't be sorrowful to see you passing.

I just saw that piece last night on CNN. Luckily the church is mostly their own inbred "extended" family, so they don't have much pull with other folk. What was cool was these bikers, I think they called themselves the Patriot Brigade or something like that, stepped up to the plate and would not let this wackjob interfere with Sgt. Davila's funeral. Good for them. And good for Sgt. Davila's family who were able to bury him with respect and honor.

What kills me the most about these wackjobs is thier cause in for the most part completely unrelated to the War on Terror. WTF are they bitching at funerals for troops that died in Iraq when the "cause" is homosexuals?

yeah. That got me too. They were all holding signs up like "Die Fags Die" or whatever, and the minister was saying how all of the military all perverts.... This guy just was just a quack. Whenever the interviewer asked him a legitimate, honest question, this "Reverend" just called the interviewer a pervert again and again. He couldn't even come up with Bible verse to support his position

As I read this crazy rhetoric they are calling their religion, I thought a lot of Matt Hale. They seem to be just as disassociated with reality as he is.

wow, that guy is a real peach. And he basically lives in our backyard. That's not very comforting

Well, he is behind bars now for soliciting the murder of a judge because she wouldn't allow him to keep the name of World Church of the Creator.

That sounds about right. Whenever I think I'm weird, I just have to read the news and I feel a whole lot better about myself
