Interested in communicating with marines who served during or actually participated in the recapture of the Mayaguez and the invasion of Cambodia
(Koh Tang) on the same day.
Also, if you were with any Marine outfit that participated in the evacuation of Saigon, April 29, 1975 (Operation Frequent Wind), would like to exchange some info regarding the strong possibility that there is an individual that needs to be brought up under Stolen Valor Act.
Finally, are there any DD-214 sleuths out there that can gain access or peruse files easily to ascertain whether stories told by an individual are factual or just so much fecal matter.
Thanks

I would like to welcome you to the board and say thank you for your service to our Country, though! You'll find this to be a pretty awesome site, with friendly members and great conversations. Join right in and post away!

I served as a platoon corpsman with 2nd Plt, Mike Co., 3/9 during Operations Frequent Wind and Eagle Talon (?). Did much work during the op and would love to talk to someone about it. It's been years but is still fresh in my mind. Have a couple other names with whom I served who I could ask to contact you -- they were both corpsmen and Marines.
Knew one Recon Marine who swam onto Koh Tang Island the night before. Had him as a patient at Charleston NRMC in 1973 -- he was a boot from PI with pneumonia. Saw him just as I was DEROS to CONUS. His last name was Billideaux and he was an assistant machinegunner, whom I believe was awarded a silver star for bravery, but would have to check. He got pretty badly mauled by khmer rouge machine gun and decidd, "WTF -- if I'm going to die, I'm taking as many of the bastards with me." Saw him on the Rock in 1975.
You can PM me and I'll give you my email address. I was embarked upon the USS Duluth (LPD6) and was part of Task Force 78.3, I think.

Welcome aboard, muckgrasschang... Great to have you join us here at the Hangout. I'd like to tell you that I was Force Recon, but then I would fit right into this catagory as a fake or imposter... But I was 0311 and even just being a Marine is enough. So why would I lie to you. I was in from 1968-1970 but never left the states. Were you at Lejuene during that period? Semper Fi Brother, Micky

Check out the website the "Koh Tang Beach Club" as it has many of the grunts who landed and got waxed. DD-214's are only as good as the admin who filled them out. DD-214's issued in 1977 do not have the latest when it comes to medal awards, etc., ... for example, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal can be traded for the Vietnam Service Medal for thos who took part in Operation Frequent Wind, considered to be the last combat action of the Vietnam War, though you will find the names of the Marines and corpsmen killed during that raid on the inner panels forming one side of the "V" at the Vietnam Memorial in DC. More names have been added as remains have been recovered.
If you send me your email in a PM, I can send you another site where it lists approximately 100+ people who took part in Operation Frequent Wind. There are wannabees, many of whom had active service that denied them combat who have doctored DD-214s to make themselves heroes. They, too, can be prosecuted under the Stolen Valor Act. I have one in an upcoming PTSD Trauma group who said he served as a sniper with Marine Corps "Special Forces." He must have meant "Special Services," as the Marines have NEVER has any Special Forces and if it was Special Services, there wasn't much of a need for a sniper to be handing out sporting gear or setting up movies. The USMC "Special Forces" line is NUMBER ONE is spotting a phony. GOOD HUNTING!

Doc Pogh
