We had a murder here in Auburn, yesterday. A woman was shot and killed in her home around 7:20 pm last night. They had a manhunt going for her estranged husband all night and into this morning, when he was found in the backyard of a home not far from where the murder was. Two Officers found him standing with a gun in his hand and ordered him to drop his weapon. Instead he took the gun and shot himself in the chest. They airlifted him to Syracuse, where he was pronounced dead. Sad. This all happened only within a couple of miles where I live, so it was kind of scary. Turns out the woman was an RN from our hospital here and a very good friend of mine knew her well, having worked with her for years. Here's an article about it from our local paper's online source, if anyone wants to read about it:

How terrible Kristen. How are you holding up? I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear friend. It's so scary when things like that happen anywhere let alone so close to home. :grouphug:

Actually, Kim, I didn't know the woman but a very good friend of mine worked with her at the hospital. My friend is not doing so good with the news, as is the same for the rest of the co-workers. What a tragedy to have a life lost under such circumstances. My heart just aches for her family and her friends.

I'm sorry Kristen, now I see that I misread your post. That must mean that it is past my bedtime....:). Well please extend a hug from us to your friend for comfort.

What a terrible Loss two lives ended , and if there were children I feel for them, and pray that they know the Lord will comfort them and help them understand why such a thing would happen. Prayers go out to you and to your friend at the hospital, and the rest of your coworkers.

When the time comes to lay them to rest, your place of work might see fit to give you the day off to stand with your friend at the service. :grouphug: for you and Prayers ( John )

Thanks John. Like I said earlier, in my second post, I didn't know this young woman(Lisa) personally, but one of my good friends did. Lisa was 36 yrs old and had 4 children, two of whom witnessed their father stab and shoot their mother then get into his car and leave them with their dying Mother. A neighbor, who came out after the shooting and ran over to try to help Lisa but could find no pulse, saw him walk away and throw the gun in his car then drive away. Lisa's young son was yelling for everyone to please save his Mom. How horrible is that???? These children have already suffered abuse throughout their younger lives at the hand of their abusive Father (he had abused all of them and their Mother for years before she finally left him and got a legal separation), and now two of them have had to witness her murder at the hands of their Father and all of them have lost both of their parents. How these children will ever get over this emotionally is beyond me. It's such a tragedy.

As for loading my gun, it was locked and loaded the moment I heard this guy was on the loose so close to where I live! I'm out in the country and by myself (well, my parents do live right next door, as well as other close neighbors, and I do have my little dog to protect me).

I understand the impact this has had on you, Kristin. Though you didn't know this lady, your profession is all about helping to prevent this type of thing. I know you don't work directly with abuse victims for that specific purpose. You do however end up with them on the other side of your desk seeking assistance. This must tear at your heart in more ways than most. Add in the fear the news of a manhunt so close to your home would cause a single woman in a semi-rural setting!! Wow! Thank God they caught the guy! Though I feel sympathy for these children, a part of me says this is best for them (as opposed to him living). For a bright side, I am grateful these two witnesses were uninjured physically. By the grace of God, they will come to terms with what has happened. Do you know if there is family for the children to move in with? I would hate to think after all of this, they would end up in foster care. :(

I'm not really sure on other family, Renee. I hope there is, though. The two older ones are in their mid teens, from what i've heard. One of her son's witnessed the worst part and jumped on top of this Mother after to try to shield her from any more harm, i'm told. Of course, different stories are starting to surface as to exactly what took place. Regardless, the outcome is the same....she was murdered, he took his life instead of facing what he had coming to him for his henious crime, and 4 children are left parentless and emotionally distraught.

Wow, that's awful, as well. I wonder what possessed him to go into that church and do that, considering he wasn't from that town and all. Hopefully, they will find the answers. The poor wife and children. Here the wife is probably thinking something like this could never happen, since her husband was in one of the least likeliest of professions for something like that to happen. Another sad needless ending of life. What is this world coming to????

If it's of any consolation there was once a murder at house literally around the corner from me. Whilst I did not know the family there I was still puzzled as to how such a thing could have happened and especially in such a peaceful little slice of modern Suburbia. (If my memory is correct the Husband and Wife were stabbed to death by their Son)

its always sad and probably could have been worked out. but sometimes you can not see the forest for the trees. There is not a bright side to view in a case like this
