Re: Navy OCS Introduction
Interesting video ~ I just don't get why they train those DI's to talk (or rather yell) like that! I suppose it's for the purpose of intimidating, but dang ~ they spit all over the place when they do it and it certainly can't be very good on their voice boxes/throat!

Re: Navy OCS Introduction
haha you're right, it's actually very bad for their voice boxes - many of them have voice cracks due to tears and permanent damage in their voice boxes. yeah, it's intimidating, it's authoritative, it's in-your-face, and it also gives you stress to hear DI's screaming at you - if you can't handle the stress at OCS, you can't lead the Navy and you can't lead Marines.

Re: Navy OCS Introduction
Actually my old unit seemed to pick up a whole lot of ex drill instructors and none of them had problems with there voice.

Re: Navy OCS Introduction
Before my son left for boot camp they had a question/answer function in my area for all of the recruits families and they had a Drill demonstration and I remember thinking I would probably be in trouble all the time because they were yelling and talking (yelling) so fast that I could barely understand a word they were saying...lol.

Re: Navy OCS Introduction
They did kind of the same thing here in our area Kim. There was a family night for the poolees and their family's, and 2 drill instructors from PI came to demonstrate. I could not understand one word they said and I could literally see the spit flying from their mouths as they were yelling at the "Recruits to be" up on the platform. The 2 DI's had them up there running fast in place, then down doing pushups, then back up running fast, etc. The whole demonstration lasted about a half hour. One young poolee, when the demonstration was over, walked outside and got sick. I asked Nick after that, if he still wanted to be a Marine and he said "hell yes!" I thought it was a good thing for the poolees to experience and for the parents to see, myself.Proud Mom of Sgt Nick, USMC

"if there is no seam on your pants, it is the imaginary line" hahaha - oh man, I agree with Kim, I'd probably get in trouble all the time...only I'd probably start laughing at random stuff - I'm not so great in situations like that. Guess that's why they keep us home while your sons and my boyfriend go take care of all that stuff for us! lol
