Promotions in the DEP

The guide for my RSS shipped to boot camp on Sunday. So, at our pool function on Saturday, a new guide was chosen. I have been promoted to guide!!!!! And lilfm has been promoted to squad leader! I'm excited and nervous at the same time.

PS Is this a universal thing with all RSS's?? Does it affect boot camp at all? (I'm sure the leadership opportunity will help but...)

First we'll work on your spelling. "G"uide, always a capital, just like a rank, not like "rat", an endearing term applied to someone who can do that job with a paticular skill no one else possess'.
Second, unless you are the only one in the ........"group" there must of been another choice, or is this one of those "you are holding blind kids hands" things? There was no other choice?
Either way, I'm taking credit for it, it's mine and no one can take it away from me.....
(Welcome to a small elite club enjoyed by only one per platoon, 4 per series, well, when ya hit the big time....as for now, wear it while you can-and it may follow you over a lifetime to your friends.)
Third, The leadership stuff you pick up now can be built on later so it's one of those "OK Dad-I hear you" things: Pay attention.
Fourth, your 3rd grade teacher lied to you big time-that one, sole, lonley, "tardy" dont follow you forever. BUT, This will.
Fifth, go take care of bizzness, we need you, but so does the rest of the world, and remember, this is always home.

oops! I have not written my "title" until now. It was a weird and yet amazing feeling to be addressed as Guide rather than my last name.

Hey Guide, your startin to get it.....c'mon, somebody let me say "Hey mack, thats our girl, shes the Guide."....And lrt me take you don a short road, that the power of what's inside you can get you. This is a little miss directed in a way, but not really Marine "girl" type. Dont hate me for saying it that way, you gonna make heads turn in a way. I'm attaching a pictue of a "girl" type person. My wifes older sister, who passed a few years ago. There made from Mom and Dads stock, rugged inside, not affraid of a challange. My wifes course of life has taken her down one road and her sister another. Dusty decided she wanted Army and did all the stuff to get to Hawaii. Not satisfied she decided to do something off the wall-went to college to be a Korean linguist. (and could cook some killer Thai too) It bought her a career spanning 20 years of service mostly stuck in a flying thing-hilochopter or something like that. 'Bout 5'5" and a buck thirty-five she kind of threw a long shadow, and when she passed away it left a hole in the world. God fixed it and folks filled the void.
BUT.
Now I'm not saying you can do exactly that, what I am saying is this, if that "girl" type person can accomplish all that with some stuff stacked against her, I am going to do that thing I do, I'll give even odds, I'll put up $5 that says you leave a pretty good dent on life and you can go far, just like she did. Anybody wanna loose $5????

Actually, mastering a foreign language (specficially Asian/Middle Eastern language) has always been one of my goals. I'm taking German 4 this year in school. I sure hope to make my dent, no matter how big or small it may be in the large picture.
