Navy veteran friend passed on today
Today, one of my best friends, left this world to be with the Lord. Ron Hellman was in the Navy back in the late 50's and early 60's. You could not find a better man. He battled pancreatic cancer for more than one year and had his ups and downs with the disease. It almost killed him three different times and just when he was having one of his strongest recoverys, he lapsed again three weeks ago and went back into the hospital. After visiting on an almost daily quest, my wife and I went to visit again today only to get there in time to see him breathe his last.
Although he was not a Marine, he was as close to me as either of my Brothers. And he was a true supporter of all veteran's affairs. He flew his American flag 24/7 just like I do, but would not fly a Navy flag for some reason. He kept insisting that one day he would fly a Marine Corps flag in my honor, but that never came about either.
So tonight I honor my good friend and Brother, Ron. As Rusty would say, "A snappy hand salute" here for Ron. I'll miss you Brother..... Semper Fi.Micky --- All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom; justice; honor; mercy; duty; hope. Sir Winston Churchill

I'm so very sorry, Micky, for the loss of your dear friend Ron. I'm also sorry I did not get on here until now to read this, or I would have replied earlier then this. He had an awesome and caring friend in you and your wife, and he as yours. May Ron forever Rest in Peace and I thank him for his service to our Country. Hugs!

Re: Navy veteran friend passed on today
Thanks everyone for the kind words. He will be missed for a long time, until time eases the pain. Then, he will still be missed but it will get easier. Rusty, you are right. It won't be long before we will be there with him and all the others that have gone before us. Then we too will get a "Welcome home".
So, that is why this site is number 1. Closer than family in many, many ways.
God Bless you all. And Semper Fi.Micky --- All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom; justice; honor; mercy; duty; hope. Sir Winston Churchill
