a bit of a dilemma!!
OK let me start off by saying I'm not too sure if this query belongs here or not so apologies if it doesn't!!
so I've tried enlisting for the British army (parents wanted me closer to home so told me to try the BA before i tried USMC!!) but i was refused on medical grounds after i had an incident where i accidentally took an overdose of painkillers!! The hospital i was at took no tests to verify if there was actually anything in my system but have put on my Medical Records/History that it was a purpousful OD!! I tried to appeal the army's decision to reject me but they weren't having any of it, now I've been told that the USMC would more than likely over look this because it was so long ago? only concern i have is that i will be spending.....well...lets just say alot of money on getting over to america and getting the perm resident status to join up and don't want things to go sour!! its alot of money to waste so was just wondering what people would say as to weather or not i would/could be given a waiver?
sorry about the long post just wanted to try make things as clear as possible.
thanks
Dean

I would try contacting a Recruiter here in the States and asking him these questions. They would know more about the possibilities of waivers and could let you know what you would need to do to enlist here. They are the ones that are in the know about the latest updates in the regulation's, etc. If you go the Marine Corps website, you will find phone numbers on who to call. Good luck

Dean ~ looking at US Map, the closest you are to United States could be the State of Maine. Try calling the Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Bangor, Maine. Their number from what I could find online is (207)942-2719. Of course, you'd need to dial internationally, so not sure what you would need to dial first before that number. Hopefully, they can give you some answers on what you need to do. Good luck.
