Re: Marines Could Face Death Penalty
I don't know what is going on lately, but all these stories about Marines being absolute criminals are on the rise. As if the USMC did not have a big enough black eye. In someone elses opinion, is this a sign of the times, as far as it is because younger people in general are less disciplined, or is it just that stories are just more publisized?

Re: Marines Could Face Death Penalty
I think it's a combination, Dave. With so many forms of discipline being banned from the Corps, because of the outcry from parents, there is that handful that aren't as disciplined as they once were. Alot of these young men and woman are coming into the Corps without much discipline ~due to the constraints put on parents with abuse laws, both parents having to work to make ends meet and no one home to keep them in line, etc. I can remember getting a good old spanking for something I'd done, when I was little. It hurt at the time, but certainly made me think twice about doing whatever I had done again. Now parents can be held liable if they spank their child. Then of course there is the media, who publish these stories left and right, as they sell like hotcakes. They seek out stories like this. Way back when, most of these incidents (if and when they did happen), were kept within the Military and handled their way, I think. There is also so many new forms of media, with the world wide web at ones fingertips. When something happens and the media gets wind of it, it's available immediately, now. Just my

I think you pretty much nailed it, Kristin. It is the overall attitude of society. Remember when the worst part of getting a paddling at school was knowing your sore butt was getting spanked when it got home?!

Re: Marines Could Face Death Penalty
I think Hernandez should be charge with murder, since he did the shooting and was the ringleader. He was the senior Marine, and is responsible for the death. I think if anyone should be tried for murder it would be him. They all had a coke habit, not good either. They all were probably on coke when they robbed him. In my humble opinion, only Hernandez should be eligible for capital punishment, the other two were accessories, but not the gunmen. It makes you wonder if they were gang bangers. Into drugs, had a gun? Too stereotypical to ignore. Doesn't make it right, but there it is.

It is the proverbial 10% of any population. True it is in reality more like 1% but still. every body has that one(or more) person in their family that well has less than desirable traits. Unfortunately the USMC family is no different.
