Public Communication Meeting
Published: February 24, 2009
MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - The silver star, the military’s third highest award for valor, will be awarded here Feb. 26 to Petty Officer 2nd Class Joshua Simson, from 5th Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, for actions taken July 27, 2007 with Embedded Training Team 6-2 in Afghanistan. Lieutenant Gen. Dennis J. Hejlik, Commanding General, II Marine Expeditionary Force, will present the award.
While serving as an advisor to the 3rd Kandak, 1st Brigade, 201st Corps of the Afghan National Army in Nuristan Province, Simson’s patrol was ambushed with small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades. Simson repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire in order to care for the U.S. and Afghan wounded, often in plain view of the enemy. Later, as the only uninjured medical personnel, he established the Casualty Collection Point at a landing zone while continually reassessing the wounded.

Re: Finally, some credit for a job well done.
I agree with all here about Doc Simson... Thanks for taking care of our brothers. This is the news that we should be reading about in the newspapers where everyone can see what our heroes do on a daily basis.
And although he may never read these words here at the Hangout, I truely believe that our brother and sister Marines, and all the other U S troops, know that we are out here supporting them while they are protecting us.Micky --- All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom; justice; honor; mercy; duty; hope. You're right, docwilley. That was definitely worth reading! I am so glad to see you Corpsmen receiving the recognition you so richly deserve. The Marines themselves have always been indebted to your presence, no the powers that be seem to be coming around a bit also. OOORAHHH!!

Very impressed with the work of our Devil Docs ( as usual ). It's great to see the recognition that they are finally getting. It's just too bad that the general public doesn't see these articles. Thanks, Doc, for the post.
